The CSX railroad may have to shrink a bit to regain some growth and profitability. First target could be the upper portion of the NYC MTA Metro North “Hudson Line”. Would leave CSX with the “Chicago Line”. From New Jersey all the way through New York State.

In October 2011, CSX and Amtrak reached an agreement for Amtrak to lease the Hudson Subdivision between Poughkeepsie and Schenectady, with Amtrak assuming maintenance and capital responsibilities. CSX will retain freight rights over the line, which hosts only five freights a day. Amtrak will use federal funds to double track the line between Rensselaer and Schenectady, and add an additional station track at the Albany-Rensselaer station. Grand Central Terminal is the start of the Hudson Line
Spuyten Duyval (SPUT) is where Amtrak from Penn Station joins the Hudson Line. “SPUT” is 12 miles from Grand Central. SPUT is 10 miles from Penn Station.

32 miles from Grand Central. Major shops for Metro North. End of electric service from Grand Central or Penn Station.
Beacon, New York
59 miles from Grand Central. Connection to NYC MTA Beacon Line begins here.
New Hamberg
Planned terminus of bridge from Marlboro, directly across Hudson River. Container ships would come to West Trenton, New Jersey from Asia (through Panama Canal). Would avoid Port of NY & NJ bottleneck. Go across bridge and by rail to Beacon, NY.
New Hamberg is 8 miles from Beacon.
Poughkeepsie
This is the end of current Metro-North service from New York. Maintenance North of here is performed by CSX/AMTRAK. It is 74 miles from Grand Central.
